A FINAL WISH COMES TRUE IN COLNE
The Colne community rallied round terminally ill speedway fan 78-year-old David Wildman on the 29th January when he shared his final wish of seeing bikes roar past one last time. Diagnosed with terminal cancer, David was a speedway rider when he was young and staff at the Albert House Residential Home were keen to make his wish a reality and shared an appeal for bikers to ride past the home.
Within hours a hundred bikers were on their way to greet David and Albert Road was filled with cheering locals and the roar of engines. Belle Vue Speedway CEO Mark Lemon and club legend Eric Broadbelt also paid a surprise visit to see David, exchanging stories of speedway and discussing his beloved Yamaha motorbike.
On the February 8th, David passed away peacefully. His funeral was held on the 6th March at St Michael’s and All Angels, Fouridge, where a bunch of bikers escorted him to his final destination. Ride in peace David.
