Foulridge Parish Council Honours Gregg Stevenson’s Paralympic Gold
Local hero Gregg Stevenson, who triumphed at the Paralympics in Paris with his GB race partner Lauren Rowles, winning gold in the mixed double sculls, has been celebrated by Foulridge Parish Council. Gregg’s remarkable journey – overcoming the loss of both legs in an explosion in Afghanistan 15 years ago while serving as a Royal Engineer Commando – will be commemorated for generations to come.
On Sunday, October 27th, Gregg was awarded the title of Freeman of Foulridge, along with an annual scholar prize at St Michael and All Angels Primary School named in his honour. Additionally, Alma Avenue Play Area will be renamed The Gregg Stevenson Play Area, featuring a Paralympic plaque to mark his achievement.
“This is fantastic news – and so well deserved!” said Councillor Asjad Mahmood, Leader of Pendle Borough Council. “To have a Paralympic gold medal winner in Pendle is amazing and should be rightly celebrated.”
