Colne Crafters

Despite its humble appearance on the outside, Colne’s Christ Church is a thriving hub of activity every Monday night. It hosts a group of lovely ladies collectively known as the ‘Crafty Briggers’. Now in its 15th year, the group is stronger than ever – with ages ranging from eight up to 98.

Annie Constable first started the group with her daughter, Catherine, in 2008 after they both learnt how to crochet from a family friend. Their sheer love for crocheting and the enjoyment they got from doing it together inspired Annie to strive to bring the world of crocheting to a larger audience.

Over the years, the group have knitted all sorts – ‘twiddle muffs’ for Alzheimer’s patients, crocheted bags and nests for koalas and kangaroos orphaned in the 2019-20 Australian bushfires, pillows, wall hangings, teddies, and even their very own ‘Knitivity’!

Yet while people have the opportunity to crochet, sew, knit, or weave, the group has evolved into a lovely, tight-knit friendship group. Offering a place for crafters to share a cake and have a natter with like-minded people is just as important to Annie as the crafting that gives the group its name.

The Christ Church crafters currently meet every Monday night from 6.30-9pm in the church nartex. No registration is required, though the group do ask for a small £2 donation to go towards the church itself.
