£1,400 gives choir something to sing about!

A children’s choir is £1,400 better off, and has a shiny trophy to cherish, thanks to a music festival that had to finish after 120 years.
Organisers of Colne’s Luther Greenwood Memorial Festival called it a day due to a lack of volunteer helpers, and agreed that remaining cash in the bank should go to voluntary organisations that promote the performing arts for young people.
Children in Pendle Youth and Children’s Choir were delighted when Festival Committee Chairman Eric Beardsworth gave a cheque to conductor Julie Townson at a rehearsal evening at Park High School, Colne.

He also handed over the festival’s Arthur Hartley Youth Choir trophy, which the Pendle choir had won seven years in a row at the annual singing competition, to keep for good.
“The youth and children’s choir has done a great job over many years encouraging young people to sing,” Mr Beardsworth said. “When we regretfully decided to end the festival we’d no hesitation in deciding to give them a share of our remaining funds. We’ll be making other donations soon.”
The choir rehearses every Friday at Park High School at 6pm, and any boys and girls who like to sing are welcome.
