Volunteering at Open Door is a rewarding experience...

It’s true what they say about volunteers; without them, many charities and organisations would be unable to provide the fantastic outcomes they do. At the Colne Open Door Centre, our volunteers are the life and soul of our charity.

Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference in a person’s or family’s life.

Volunteer at Open Door

At the Open Door Centre, we take pride in our diverse and inclusive community. We provide opportunities and placements to individuals from various cultures, genders, and social statuses. Over the past 12 months, our incredible volunteer workforce has contributed 6,620 hours, a testament to the value we place on every individual’s unique contribution.

“Students will often continue volunteering with the charity once their placement ends.”

In addition to offering volunteering opportunities, we also work with local schools and colleges to provide educational and work experience placements for students studying health and social care. We are proud to support future superstars of the health and social care sector. Students will often continue volunteering with the charity once their placement ends and offer a variety of volunteering opportunities, from admin roles to supporting our chef in the community café. We also offer volunteer roles in the outdoors!

Our Open Gate Community Garden provides an opportunity for those in the community who are marginalised through social isolation, anxiety or depression or in recovery to experience the well-documented benefits of gardening.

Open Gate Community Garden

Volunteering at our Open Gate Community Garden is not just about giving back to the community. It’s an opportunity to socialise, engage in horticultural activities that benefit physical and psychological health, boost confidence, and learn new skills. It’s a chance for personal growth and fulfilment as you contribute to the growth of vegetables and flowers that are used in the cafe or taken home by the local community.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the Open Door Centre and our community garden. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have a passion for the outdoors, great people skills, and experience growing fresh produce or flowers.
