In the heart of Burnley, where the scent of fresh pies blends with generations of local pride, Haffners is a name that’s stood the test of time. Founded in 1889, this family-run business has served East Lancashire with quality pies, cooked meats, and sausages for over a century. However, for those involved with Colne FC, the name ‘Haffners’ also represents quiet, consistent support.

One of the people behind that connection is Ted Cockett — someone who’s been part of Colne FC in more ways than most. From his days as an academy player and first-team regular, to a stint as assistant manager and now a sponsor through his role as Sales Director at Haffners, Ted’s long association with the club speaks to a steady, personal commitment.

From Boots to Business

Ted Cockett’s football story is a familiar one to many who’ve followed Colne FC over the years — a local lad who worked his way through the club’s ranks, making his name as a creative, two-footed midfielder. After his playing days, he stepped into coaching and then into club sponsorship, remaining closely involved even as his role changed.

“Everyone associated with the club that supported me as a 15-year-old kid played a huge part in the person I am today. It’s a huge part of my life and I’m grateful to be able to support them now,” Ted explains.

Former manager Steve Cunningham says: “Ted knew the club inside out — he brought that understanding to every role he took on. These days, he may be off the pitch, but he’s still part of the club’s fabric — a local business leader who helps keep Colne FC moving forward.”

Ted and Haffners are just one example of how local businesses can help sustain grassroots football.

The connection with Colne FC remains strong, with Haffners sponsoring the club and helping to bring football and food together in a way that resonates with the local community.

While Ted prefers to stay out of the spotlight, his ongoing support hasn’t gone unnoticed. From pitch-side signs to matchday food and fundraising events, it’s not just a business, but part of the club’s extended family.

Long-serving groundsman Richard Harries sums it up: “Ted’s been part of the club in so many ways. You don’t need to shout about it — it shows in the consistency.”

Haffners

Ted and Haffners are just one example of how local businesses can help sustain grassroots football. Colne FC continues to welcome support from those who value what the club brings to the community— pride, purpose, and a place for young talent to grow.

Whether you’re a lifelong supporter or a local business owner thinking about getting involved, now’s a great time to be part of something that matters. Quiet support can go a long way – just ask Ted!
