Local Colne primary students had their say!
The Colne Junior Council met on October 12th to appoint new council leaders. Congratulations to Tom, now the Chairperson; Ade, who takes on the role of Vice Chairperson; Mason, now the Secretary; and Charlie, who will serve as the Treasurer. This was only the council’s second gathering, and the young students from local Colne primary schools spent the day giving speeches, despite their initial nervousness, and participating in the election process.
Andrew Peers, headteacher at Christchurch Primary, said, “I hope that all the children came back to school feeling empowered to begin to make change now that they have been elected into posts etc. They have returned with some things to discuss for the next meeting.”
The council has decided to focus on Parks, the Environment, and Road Safety, and the children are currently brainstorming ideas to enhance these aspects in their local community. We eagerly anticipate the Junior Council’s efforts to use their voices to bring about improvements.
