Pendle Hippodrome receives a £4,500 donation

Theatre kids have been given a £4,500 boost to help stage their next production, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.”

The donation to Pendle Hippodrome Youth Theatre came from the now-defunct Luther Greenwood Festival, Colne’s annual competition of music and dance that dated back more than 100 years.

The festival folded last year due to falling income and a lack of volunteers to run it, and organisers agreed to donate remaining funds in the bank to organisations that promote the performing arts for young people.

Susan Thorp, who was the festival’s dance chairman, handed a cheque to youth theatre chairman Julie Scott at Pendle Hippodrome Theatre, Colne.

More than 30 youngsters aged from 10 upwards have started workshop rehearsals for the show, based on Disney’s hit animated musical, which takes to the stage in February next year.
