CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG is Flying into Colne

by Colne Life

In our spring issue, Tony shared his life story under the footlights as a first-time performer; and he’s back again, this time to talk about his latest role in ‘CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG’.

Local thespian Tony Davies attempted ‘treading the boards’ for the first time in March this year in Pendle Hippodrome’s jaw-dropping musical, ‘Made in Dagenham’.

Tony Davies taking a break!

There’s no stopping him now! After the euphoria of the ‘Made in Dagenham’ production (where I played a small part in the ensemble), it’s a week later and ‘CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG’ is getting started! The show will be nightly from Tuesday, 19th – Saturday, 23rd of September. We have a big show with lots of folk in the cast – and only six months! I hope to have a couple of lines in it this time too!

The first workshop was informative, especially for me, having never been to one before. The three directors explained how they planned to make the show work. Following the auditions, I was pleased to be offered the part of Sid. He is the guy who gets all his hair removed in Potts’ barbering machine. Then, onto the fairground scene, I perform a small speaking part and make folks laugh. I did cause some hilarity (as I forgot my lines!).
“I can guarantee you will enjoy the show; you’ll be singing along in no time!”
We are approaching showtime, and my untrained eye thinks things are going well; I could be wrong! Of course, all the while we are rehearsing on stage, people are working in the wings, building the scenery. The costume department is out and about with endless energy sorting clothes out for us. The main man Joe, a veteran of many years, ensures we have a steady supply of brews. I hope I’ve given you a desire to come along and support us. We would all love it if you did. Please let your family and friends know about it too. I can guarantee you will enjoy the show; you’ll be singing along in no time! Perhaps even more so after enjoying a glass at halftime!
