Children from local schools discuss their concerns
Pendle and Clitheroe MP Jonathan Hinder visited Colne Junior Council to hear from young councillors about their current projects and concerns. Pupils from Christ Church, Trawden Forest, and Park Primary schools presented a range of initiatives, including the Headteacher Challenge and support for the local charity Open Door. Ideas included setting up school food banks, designing digital content and posters, and producing an informative leaflet on Open Door’s services.
Council chairman Ade delivered a compelling speech on child food poverty, urging the MP to support free school meals for all primary pupils. Hinder pledged to write to relevant government ministers on the issue.

Despite disappointment over their rejected bid to visit Parliament, the council pressed on, planning a cookbook featuring low-cost recipes and creative ways to use leftovers. The Town Council, represented by Clerk Gina Langley, offered design support for the project, which will be discussed further at the next meeting on 20th June.
